Sheriff seeks $240,000 for four deputies, cruisers

Henderson County Sheriff Charlie McDonald wants the Board of Commissioners to authorize the hiring of four new sheriff's deputies and four new cruisers.

McDonald wants two deputies "to improve and enhance building security" at the Grove Street Courthouse, one for the section that serves warrants and one for the detective division. The total cost of the personnel and vehicles would be $240,513. The source of the money would be the county's fund balance, which currently totals $28 million.
The breakdown of the appropriation included $92,440 for the vehicles and $6,645 to equip them with the rest salaries, benefits and equipment for the deputies.

The commissioners will take up the request at their regular meeting on Monday.
