Fred deluge caused three sewer overflows, city says

Hendersonville’s Wastewater Collection System experienced three discharges of untreated wastewater from manholes during the heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Fred Tuesday and Wednesday, the city said.

Two discharges were from manholes on Jonesborough Street off White Street at 6:27 p.m. releasing approximately 2,050 and 215 gallons of untreated wastewater. The third discharge was from a manhole at 441 S. Whitted St. at 6 a.m. releasing approximately 50 gallons of untreated wastewater. All the sanitary sewer overflows were due to excessive rainfall and the overflow of Mud Creek and Wash Creek in the French Broad River Basin.
The city notified the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, Division of Water Resources, of the overflows on Wednesday and will be reviewing the event.
