Farm City Day is Saturday

The 2021 Farm City Day event is back this weekend after cancellation of last year's festival during Covid-19 mass gathering restrictions.

Started in 1955, the free event honoring Henderson County's farm heritage is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jackson Park, where some 50 acres will be devoted to urban, rural and educational displays, antiques and modern farm equipment and crafters from many generations.

Farm City Day focuses on agricultural awareness, teaching kids where their food comes from and who produces it. There will be many activities for kids. There will be many hands-on activities including a farm animal petting zoo, old-timey demonstrations, crafts and a fishing pond. There will also be an area for small kids to play. Planned entertainment includes three bands performing. Food trucks are available throughout the day. A few craft vendors will be selling their wares.

The International Harvester Tractor Club will be providing wagon rides with one of their antique tractors. 4-H will have hands on crafts. The FFA will be running the fishing pond. WTZQ radio is sponsoring the music stage. The Farm Bureau and N.C. Department of Agriculture will be educating kids about the apple industry.

This year’s Farmer of the Year is Kenny Allison. The festival will also honor sisters Wendy Henderson and Karen Saine for their many years of service to Farm City Day.

Stage schedule:

  • 10 a.m. Opening Ceremony
  • 11 a.m. Carolina Bound
  • 12:30 p.m. Roots and Dore Band
