Police investigate arson fire downtown

Hendersonville police detectives are investigating a downtown arson fire that endangered the life of a resident who leapt to safety from a second floor apartment.

Police received a call at 3:15 a.m. Thursday to assist the Hendersonville Fire Department at a fire at 104 First Ave. E. in a building that contains offices and an apartment. The apartment was occupied at the time and the individual was able to escape the building unharmed. WLOS reported that the occupant escaped by jumping from a second story window.
Two suspects wearing dark clothing were captured on video in the area at the time of the fire. The incident is being investigated as an arson and detectives are asking residents and merchants in the downtown area to submit security camera footage to Detective Zeff Childress to assist in the investigation. Footage showing overnight activity in the downtown vicinity can be provided to Detective Childress at zchildress@hvlnc.gov.
