Johnson wins reelection to N.C. House District 113

Incumbent Jake Johnson appears to have won reelection as a representative in the N.C. House of Representatives.

With all 27 precincts reporting, Johnson earned 7,545 votes or 65.03 percent of the vote for house district 113 to the 4,058 votes or 34.97 percent of the vote of David Rogers, according to unofficial results.
The district includes Henderson, Polk, Rutherford and McDowell counties.
As the youngest member of the state house, Johnson, 28, was seeking his second full term after being appointed to the seat in August 2019. Before that, he served as a Polk County commissioner for three years.
In an interview earlier in May, Johnson said he was running for reelection because he wanted to continue to be a strong voice in the state capital for the citizens of Western North Carolina. He said he wanted to continue to fight for pro-life policies, defend the second amendment and promote pro-business policies. He said he also wanted to support veterans.

Johnson said Tuesday night that he was ready to get back to work.

"I would like to thank you voters of District 113 for the trust you have placed in me to be your voice in Raleigh," he said. "I will continue fighting to create a better future for the next generation in Western North Carolina."

He said he looked forward to focusing on economic policies that will push back on the agendas of  President Joe Biden and N.C. Governor Roy Cooper.

"I am greatful to God, my family and all who have helped make this win possible," he said.

Rogers, 56, first came to the legislature through appointment in August 2016 and was seeking a fourth term. The race for house district 113 was one of a handful across the state where two incumbents got double-bunked as a result of redistricting.

Johnson will not face a challenger in the general election.
