Fletcher releases names of officers who responded to call resulting in death

FLETCHER — The Fletcher police department on Friday released the names of two officers and five sheriff's deputies who responded to a domestic disturbance call that ended in the death of a 35-year-old man they had taken into custody.

The State Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the in-custody death of Christopher Robert Hensley at the Seasons at Cane Creek apartment complex on Wedndesday. Officers initially responding to the 911 call for help and members of the sheriff’s office who were requested to assist included Sgt. Michael Elizondo and officer Michael Teets and Henderson County deputies Seth Summey, Zack Ritter, Josh Garren, Zach Warren and Rob Martin.

In the 911 call that Fletcher police released earlier this week, Teresa Hensley reported that her husband would not allow her to leave and would not leave her alone. She said that he was under the influence of drugs and they can be heard arguing about his drug use.

As officers attempted to assist Teresa in gathering her belongings and leaving the home, a fight ensued with Hensley and Fletcher officers requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Office. After Hensley was handcuffed and taken into custody, he became unresponsive. Officers began CPR and requested Emergency Medical Services. Hensley was transported to the hospital where he died.

This is an ongoing investigation as the SBI continues to investigate the incident., Fletcher Police Chief Dan Terry said in a news release.
