Throngs of people who have driven by, honked and peeked at 402 S. Church St. will be able to enjoy a craft beer from a wide selection when Blue Ridge Beer Garden celebrates its grand opening this weekend.
Built in the 1950s as gas station, the reimagined and expanded space created a modern-day filling station of a different kind. Boasting 25 beers and ciders on tap, plus an array of wine, seltzers, domestics, craft beer, and non-alcohol options, the city's first beer garden offers something for everyone’s palate and preference.
Blue Ridge Beer Garden is the brainchild of Joe Dinan, James Miller and Adam Justus, who have created a park-like oasis on the south slope of Hendersonville. Picnic tables, flower boxes, yard games and ample bike racks welcome locals and visitors, with a location perfectly poising itself as the ideal spot to socialize after a downtown concert or unwind after a ride on the future Ecusta Trail.
“We wanted to create a place unlike any other in downtown Hendersonville,” said Justus, co-owner of the Blue Ridge Beer Garden. “It’s a neighborhood garden party serving a fantastic selection of adult beverages. If you arrive with a group of friends, great. And if you show up solo, you’re sure to make new neighbors and friends you never knew you needed but can’t imagine the evening without.”
The beer garden will also serve as the new home base of HVL Pedal and Brews, Hendersonville’s first
and only pubcycle. Starting this fall, pedalers will begin and end their tours on South Church Street for an enhanced embarking and disembarking experience. Pubcycle riders will be able to purchase canned products on the premises or purchase a plastic cup to bring their beer along for the ride.
Beyond the wide variety of beverages, the owners expect to have a series of rotating food trucks onsite. Although the beer garden is not a brewery, plans are in place for some specialty brews exclusive to the beer garden, thanks to Dinan, head brewer and owner of Oklawaha Brewing.
Operating hours will be from 2-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon-10 pm on
Friday and Saturday and noon-8 p.m. Sunday, depending on traffic and the season.
