Christmas trees recycled into mulch in successful partnership

Kevin Rhodes of the city public works department carries a Christmas tree to the chipper on Saturday.

Christmas trees went into a chipper and came out the chute as mulch Saturday  in the annual recycling event led by MountainTrue in partnership with the Henderson County solid waste and recreation departments, the city public works department and King Hardware, which donated use of the chipper.

IMG 2854City public works workers and MountainTrue volunteers greeted Christmas tree recyclers with hot cider and cookies on Saturday. Henderson County residents dropped off more than 300 Christmas trees, said Mountain True Southern Regional Director Nancy Diaz, dead Christmas lights, Christmas cards and — this year for the first time — styrofoam.
