Homebuilder's employee charged with embezzlement

FLETCHER — A 45-year-old employee of a high-end homebuilder has been charged with embezzlement and identity theft, the Henderson County sheriff's department said.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Office arrested Sherry Lynn Gonda of Pisgah Forest on five counts of embezzlement and one count of identity theft. Gonda was charged on February 6, 2013 for embezzling at least $67,239.30 from Thompson Properties Inc., where she had been employed. Gonda was charged and released the same day on a $15,000 bond.
Thompson Properties, based in Fletcher, specializes in building premier homes in the area. Its website shows a 5,000-square-foot home for $2.35 million in the Cliffs at Walnut Cove, a 4,300-square-foot home for $895,000 in Willow Brook Falls and a a 5,074-square-foot home in the Cliffs at Walnut Cove for $2.5 million.
