Residents, visitors and tourists will enjoy a smoother ride on miles of Laurel Park roads as the town embarks on an ambitious six-year plan to catch up on road and drainage work.

Tar Heel Paving Co. submitted the low bid among four bidders to win a contract for $883,561 for work starting this summer with more work expected next year. The current town budget appropriates $1.67 million for roadwork by next June 30. Roughly two-thirds of the work, which include drainage improvement where needed, is scheduled to take place this summer and fall with the balance coming next spring,

Mayor Carey O’Cain told the Local Government Committee for Cooperative Action last week. Blue roads signify those ready for paving in mid-August; green, ready for paving in mid-September; and pink, scheduled for 2024.
