In an ongoing effort to enhance the efficiency of service delivery and recognize the diligent efforts of planning staff, the City of Hendersonville is pleased to announce the promotions of Tyler Morrow to current planning manager and Mathew Manley to long-range planning manager, the city announced.
“The work of our department involves a regular push and pull between the needs of developers and community members working on current projects and the desire of the community to envision and plan for the future,” said Lew Holloway, director of the Community Development Department. “While intimately related, these two areas require unique and focused attention from the department to meet our community and customer expectations.”
In his new role as current planning manager, Morrow will administer and coordinate the City’s Development Review Committee, manage the implementation of online permitting and document review software, oversee the Certificate of Occupancy process, and handle various other aspects related to current development review and compliance.
In his new role as long-range planning manager, Mr. Manley will oversee the Comprehensive Plan and its associated implementation projects, including zoning text amendments and rezonings, while also engaging with partners involved in long-range infrastructure planning, including transportation and utilities.
“Mr. Morrow and Mr. Manley bring a wealth of knowledge and skill to our organization and display a daily commitment to the vibrancy and overall health of our community,” Holloway said. “As we strive to live up to our departmental values of cooperation, communication, innovation, curiosity, and respect, we believe these changes position our staff to better reflect these values in our community.”
A certified zoning official through the North Carolina School of Government, Morrow began his career as a planner with the City of Hendersonville in 2019 after earning his undergraduate (B.S.) and graduate (M.P.A.) degrees from Western Carolina University. A native of Waynesville, Morrow has a great passion for the region and takes pride in his southern Appalachian roots. Beyond his professional life, Tyler values spending time with his family, rooting for his Georgia Dawgs and playing on the city’s softball team (Go Aces!).
An accredited city planner through the American Planning Association and American Institute of Certified Planners, Manley has been with the city of Hendersonville since December 2020. He most recently served as the project manager for the City’s GEN H Comprehensive Plan. Originally from Greenville, S.C., Manley attended Presbyterian College (B.S.) and Clemson University (MCRP). He came to Hendersonville after working in Johnson City, Tennessee, and Lyons, Colorado. He lives in town with his wife, Molly, and two toddlers, Quinn and Townes. They are all avid hikers and lovers of nature. Outside of work, if he is not on the trail or working in the yard, you will find him rooting for his Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves.
