Cancer physicist named Pardee Teammate of the Month

Tom Dellinger

Tom Dellinger, a medical physicist in Pardee Cancer Center’s radiation oncology department, has been named the hospital's Teammate of the Month, UNC Health Pardee announced.
Dellinger works alongside the clinical team to ensure patients receive the prescribed radiation dose for their diagnosis. He oversees quality assurance programs and operating procedures for the Linear Accelerator, CT Simulator, and all related treatment parameters, as well as radiation safety for the department.

A vital part of Pardee for nearly 23 years, Dellinger said he was drawn to the organization for its exceptional staff members and their strong commitment to quality and safety in radiation oncology, within the supportive environment of a close-knit community hospital.

His colleagues describe him as a steady humble leader who goes above and beyond to support his team and ensure patient safety. In the days following Hurricane Helene, Dellinger came in voluntarily to inspect the linear accelerator. His quick action prevented significant damage to the equipment, allowing the department to resume operations far sooner than expected.

Dellinger’s calm demeanor, attention to detail, and dedication to quality care are widely admired. He regularly updates departmental policies, keeps staff informed about equipment and processes, and remains a trusted resource for coworkers. “What I enjoy most is working in collaboration with our team to provide excellent care for our patient community,” he says. “I’m proud to work with dedicated team members in fighting cancer in Western North Carolina.”
