Mike Huffman, the city’s stormwater and floodplain administrator, will lead the guided walk “Tracking Our Tributaries: Exploring Mud Creek” along the Oklawaha Greenway at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 10.
Participants will meet at the round gazebo in Patton Park. The walk, which happens rain or shine, will last an hour and a half.
Huffman will talk about and point out during the walk where the major floodwaters came from during Hurricane Helene. He will explain where the water goes when it rains, and answer questions about his work in stormwater and floodwater management.
The Mud Creek watershed drains a 113-square-mile area in central Henderson County encompassing the municipalities of Hendersonville, Laurel Park and Flat Rock. It consists of five sub-watersheds: Upper Mud Creek, Lower Mud Creek, Bat Fork, Devil’s Fork, and Clear Creek.
The Walk-n-Talk is co-sponsored by Friends of the Oklawaha Greenway and Conserving Carolina.
