Tax administrator trading mountains for the sea

Henderson County Tax Administrator Harry Rising is leaving the county for a position in Carteret County on North Carolina's coast. His last day with the county will be Friday, July 4.

Rising has been with Henderson County since May 22, 2023, as tax administrator. His prior years of experience included tax assessment with the county for six years while serving on the Henderson County Board of Equalization and Review. He also served as vice-chair of the Board of E&R during those years.

“I am sad to be leaving such a great staff,” Rising said. “Working with them has been a great professional experience, and I know they will continue to serve the community with commitment and integrity. I’m looking forward to the challenges presented by my new appointment and the opportunity to make a difference with another great North Carolina community.”

Carteret County, which has about half the population of Henderson County, shares some similar traits. A growing vacation destination and retirement area, Carteret includes Morehead City, Beaufort (the county seat) and the Emerald Isle beaches.

“On behalf of the County staff and the citizens of Henderson County, I want to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Harry Rising for his two years of dedicated service as tax administrator," County Manager John Mitchell said. "His professionalism, integrity and commitment to fair and accurate assessments have been invaluable to our community."
