A contractor for the N.C. Department of Transportation will close one lane of a short stretch of eastbound I-26 near the Green River bridge on Sunday night through Wednesday night and repeat the closure again next week.
Crews from Flatiron-Dragados Construction will close the outside lane of I-26 East starting at 7 p.m. Sunday night in order to shift safety barrier and an attenuator before paving a section near the Peter Guice bridge. Other planned operations include grading, seeding and backfilling curbs.
The lane is scheduled to open by 7 a.m. on Thursday morning to allow free-flowing traffic over the weekend. The operation will repeat starting Sunday, July 20.
This operation is part of a $27 million project to widen and rehabilitate the Green River bridge. Engineers anticipate completing all operations late this fall.
