A 5-acre corn maze is one of many attractions at Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard, which is open seven days a week.
Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard, 170 Stepp Orchard Drive, is kicking off the 2025 fall season with a special tribute to the farming community that makes Western North Carolina thrive.
A 5-acre corn maze design celebrates the resilience, strength and longstanding legacy of local farms, spotlighting the essential role agriculture plays across the region. The orchard extends special thanks to Precision Mazes, whose expert work in cutting and shaping the design brought the vision to life. Their skill and partnership helped transform the idea into an interactive experience that guests of all ages can enjoy.
A fourth-generation family farm, Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard has deep roots in Henderson County and a firsthand understanding of the challenges and triumphs faced by farming families. The maze theme reflects a broader message of unity and hope, recognizing the ongoing efforts of farmers who continue to feed their communities, preserve rural landscapes and carry forward vital traditions.
A portion of proceeds from the 2025 corn maze will benefit the Appalachian Grown Farmer Resiliency Fund, managed by the Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project (ASAP). The fund supports recovery and resiliency programs such as Appalachian Farms Feeding Families, emergency grants and resources that connect farmers with schools, markets, and families in need.
The corn maze will be open daily throughout the fall season, alongside Stepp’s popular U-pick apple orchards, grape vines, sunflower and zinnia fields and pumpkin patch. Visitors can also enjoy family-such friendly activities as wagon rides, the apple cannon and the jump pad—plus fall favorites like apple cider donuts and slushies.
