Fuel up for the festival at Kiwanis Club, Elk Lodge breakfasts

Folks attending the N.C. Apple Festival can start their day with a hearty breakfast served by two civic clubs:
- The Kiwanis Club Pancake Breakfast, the unofficial kickoff of the festival, features a menu of pancakes, baked apples, eggs, bacon, juice and coffee. The pancake breakfast 8-10 a.m. Friday is a major fundraising event that supports the Kiwanis Club’s Service Leadership Programs at local schools, scholarships, youth selling bee and the Shoes & Socks program. Tickets are $10, available from Kiwanis members or at the door, via cash or credit card.
- The Hendersonville Elks breakfast is 7 a.m.-noon Sunday, Aug. 31, at the Elks Lodge Dining Room, 546 N. Justice St. The breakfast buffet includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, grits, biscuits with gravy, fruit cup, apple crisp and beverages. Tickets are available at the door, $12 for adults and $8 for children ages 6-12. The breakfast is free for children younger than 6. Cash, check and credit card payments will be accepted. Money raised during the event supports the Elks Lodge No.1616 Christmas charity program.
