City will celebrate revitalized basketball courts on Thursday

City officials and corporate sponsors will celebrate the renovated Sullivan Park basketball court during an official unveiling at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25.

Icy Hot, an Opella Brand, and Dollar General plan to host city officials, local school representatives and community members to unveil the fully revitalized court on the week of the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Helene slamming Western North Carolina.

Icy Hot and Dollar teamed up to give the local basketball court a fresh new look while also championing literacy programs that make a difference. Together, they’re bringing the community more than just a place to play: the initiative is all about inspiring connection, encouraging kids to stay active and opening doors through investing in literacy and education initiatives, the companies said.
The event will include remarks from local officials and brand representatives and a special presentation of a grant to the Henderson County Education Foundation from Icy Hot to enhance educational opportunities for students and educators. Scheduled to speak are Hendersonville City Council member Melinda Lowrance, Marlo Yates, Opella, Icy Hot Shopper Engagement; Kou Yang, Dollar General Regional Director of Operations; Peggy Marshall, Henderson County Education Foundation Executive Director; and Mark Garrett, Henderson County Public Schools Superintendent.

Sullivan Park is at 712 Martin Circle off Seventh Avenue East in Green Meadows.
