Registration open to volunteer during Days of Caring

Registration is now open for individuals, families, or teams to sign up with a local nonprofit to volunteer at the 2026 Days of Caring, sponsored by the United Way of Henderson County May 8 and 9.

A total of 18 local nonprofit agencies have submitted 23 projects to spruce up their facilities, creating a need for nearly 300 volunteers.

“It is inspiring to see the impact that volunteers can make when they join together for Days of Caring," said Kat Carlton, executive director of United Way. “Nonprofits do so much for our community and this is a great way to come together, lend a hand, and say thank you."

The projects on Friday, May 8, include a variety that appeals to all kinds of volunteers. Whether you are a gardener, a handy-person, or a creative volunteer, projects like mulching, landscaping, construction, repairs, sewing and painting are available.

Saturday, May 9 focuses on the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive — America’s largest single-day food drive. As postal carriers distribute mail, they also collect donations residents leave bagged at their mailboxes. Volunteers are needed to help drive postal routes to collect the high volume of donations and to help sort and pack food deliveries that arrive at the postal annex. Local donations are shared with local food pantries.

Interested volunteers can find registration instructions by visiting liveunitedhc.org/daysofcaring and choosing half- or full-day projects on Friday or Saturday or both days. Volunteers who are registered online by April 4, are guaranteed a free t-shirt. Any questions may be directed to bbartlett@liveunitedhc.org, or by phone at 828-692-1636 x1103.
