The 24th Asheville Orchid Festival takes place this weekend at the North Carolina Arboretum.
World-class orchid growers and breeders will exhibit their works when the Western North Carolina Orchid Society and the North Carolina Arboretum host the 24th Asheville Orchid Festival this weekend at the arboretum.
“Orchid Kingdom,” an American Orchid Society-sanctioned event, will take place 4-7:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Thousands of orchids will be for sale by vendors from Ecuador and across the U.S.. There will be something for all orchid lovers, including rare species and cutting-edge hybrids.
“The Asheville Orchid Festival has been recognized as one of the best orchid shows in the country today,” said Mike Mims, past president of the Western North Carolina Orchid Society.
The Asheville Orchid Festival is part of Spring Into the Arb, a series of plant shows and sales, music, science and fun celebrating the emergence of the season that runs every weekend through June 7.
Admission is $5 for everyone over the age of 12, and free for Western North Carolina Orchid Society members, including parking. A regular parking fee for the North Carolina Arboretum of $25 per vehicle applies for nonmembers. Exhibits, orchid programs and educational lectures are included with admission.
