Rugby Middle School principal Sloan Neuburger, an integral part of the school’s recent success, has been named the new school's principal, the Henderson County school system announced.
Neuburger brings continuity, strong relationships and a deep understanding of the Raider community into her new role, the school district administration announced, playing a key role in strengthening systems, supporting teachers, and improving student outcomes. During her tenure, the school has sustained strong academic growth, improved staff retention and earned high marks on Teacher Working Conditions surveys.
“Sloan Neuburger is an exceptional leader who understands what it takes to support both students and staff,” Superintendent Mark R. Garrett said. “She builds meaningful relationships, leads with energy and purpose, and keeps students at the center of every decision. The Rugby Middle Raiders are gaining a principal who will continue to move the school forward in meaningful ways.”
Since joining HCPS, Neuburger has served in several impactful roles. Prior to her work at Rugby Middle, she was assistant principal at Sugarloaf Elementary School and a graduation coach at North Henderson High School, where she led initiatives to improve attendance, increase graduation rates, and expand student opportunities through mentoring, college visits and academic support programs.
A passionate advocate for student leadership, Neuburger is well-versed in the Leader in Me framework and has led professional development to support its implementation across schools. She is known for her strong communication skills, collaborative leadership style, and commitment to creating a positive and inclusive school environment.
“I am incredibly honored to serve as principal of Rugby Middle School,” she said. “Rugby is a special place, and I am excited to continue working alongside our amazing students, staff, and families. Together, we will build on the strong foundation already in place and continue striving for excellence every day as Raiders.”
Neuburger holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University.
