Sheriff’s deputies charge man with first-degree murder in Corn Mountain Road shooting

Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies charged a man with murder this week in the shooting death of another man on Corn Mountain Road.


Ervin Perry Landis Jr., 62, was in the county’s jail under no bond on Thursday after he was charged a day earlier with first-degree murder in the death of 63-year-old Edward Russell.
Patrol deputies and detectives were called at 3:04 a.m. on Wednesday to a report of a shooting on Corn Mountain Road. When deputies arrived. they found Russell suffering from a gunshot wound. He later succumbed to his injuries.
During the course of the investigation, which included crime scene processing and witness interviews, one suspect was identified. Landis was then arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the incident, according to the press release.
The sheriff’s office said on Thursday that no additional information about the case will be released.
