One lane of Interstate 26 West is closed at the Green River bridge through Wednesday morning, the NCDOT announced.
Crews with contractor Flatiron Dragados are installing bridge joints, making the closure necessary for the safety of drivers and construction workers. All lanes will open by 7 a.m. Wednesday. A similar operation on I-26 East is scheduled to begin Sunday night to facilitate bridge joint installation on the eastbound span and run from Aug. 2-5. The operations are part of a $27 million project to widen and rehabilitate the Peter Guice Memorial Bridge. NCDOT engineers project that crews will complete the job on the bridge this fall.
