United Way seeks nominees for Rising Leaders program

The United Way of Henderson County is accepting applications for the 2013-14 Rising Leaders program.
Sponsored by Friday Staffing, the year-long program is designed to prepare young professionals for leadership roles in local non-profit organizations.
The United Way launched the Rising Leaders program in 2011 as a response to the desire expressed by Henderson County non-profit leaders to connect with young professionals who are interested in and well-prepared for long-term volunteer opportunities. The goal of the program is to educate the next generation of community leaders and give them the tools and connections to become key volunteers with UWHC partner agencies and other non-profits in Henderson County.
Thanks to the support of Friday Staffing, the Rising Leaders Program is free for all participants. Space is limited – only 20 participants will be part of the program.
Program participants must commit to attending an introductory session on Sept. 7 as well as five of six informational sessions held at lunchtime throughout the year. The interactive sessions will cover the fundamentals of board service and non-profit management; and the essential knowledge and skills agency directors would like to see in their prospective board members. In order to successfully complete the program, participants will also be required to complete at least ten hours of volunteer service between September 2013 and April 2014. Several social events will be held, including a graduation event to introduce participants to agency directors and community leaders.
A program outline and application can be found at www.liveunitedhc.org/rising-leaders.html. Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and can be submitted to lgriffin@liveunitedhc.org. Anyone with questions about the program may 828-692-1636.
