TRYON —Ask anyone connected to the Blue Ridge BBQ & Music Festival, and they'll tell you it's the best family entertainment value to be had anywhere. The festival is set for Friday and Saturday at Harmon Field.
Festival Chairman Chuck Britton asks, "What other event offers such an incredible line-up of live music on two stages for two days, a juried craft show, not to mention the best food to be had anywhere, for just $8 a person—with children 12 and under free. And there are carnival rides and games for kids of all ages.
"And," he added, "everybody gets in free on Friday from 10 a.m. til 2 p.m. and stay as long as they like."
Barbecue and music, of course, are the main attractions. Up to 90 cookers can be accommodated at "Hog Heaven," and they've all been registered. Plus there are seven more teams on the infield (around the Main Stage) selling to the public. They come from all over the United States to compete for cash and trophies and, of course, bragging rights. Festival-goers can stroll through Hog Heaven to see the teams at work and pick-up some cooking tips. They can also have a peek at the filming of an episode of the highly acclaimed TV show, BBQ Pitmasters, who will be on the grounds with their stars each day.
Outstanding live music on the Main Stage Friday includes the headliner evening stars "Town Mountain" (7:30 pm) then"Big Daddy Love" (9:30 pm). But before these two crowd pleasers arrive, the stage will have been warming up with great acts all day- they start around 11:30 a.m. on the Main Stage and around 12:30 on the smaller Riverside Stage.
Saturday's headliners are "Donna the Buffalo" (9:30 pm) and "The Blue Dogs" (7:30 pm). On Saturday too, music starts around 11:30 a.m. and goes all day.
In addition to everything else that's going on, there are special events on Saturday, such as the third annual Classic Car Show, and the fireworks are back. On Saturday night, just after dark, watch for a spectacular display. Saturday is also when the Hawg Run for Fun takes place. This is actually two separate motorcycle poker runs, one originating at Harley-Davidson in Greenville and the other at Harley-Davidson in Asheville, both ending at the festival.
At the Kids and Teens Fun Park, there will be two unlimited ride sessions on both days 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and 4:30 pm – 11 p.m., during which time kids can ride as many times as they want for only $15 per session.
