Body of drowning victim recovered from Lake Summit

LAKE SUMMIT — The body of 19-year-old Tre Carter was recovered by divers at 2:34 p.m. from Lake Summit.

Divers from Charlotte Fire using advanced sonar technology recovered the body in approximately 80 feet of water.

The Henderson County sheriff's department responded to a 911 call at 6:43 p.m. on Monday, reporting a possible drowning at Lake Summit. Friends said Traverious Leqwell Carter, a 2012 North Henderson High School graduate, had trouble swimming in deep water and went under. His body was not recovered after a search Monday night and all day Tuesday. Recovery efforts were suspended Tuesday as darkness fell, Maj. Frank Stout of the sheriff's department said in a news release issued just before 9 p.m.

Witnesses told investigators that four friends were swimming and jumping from the train trestle near the south end of the lake when the victim "began having a hard time staying swimming and called for help," the sheriff's department said.
