Keren Fernandez, a 2013 graduate of Hendersonville High School, was awarded the Connie and Ricky Sparks Memorial Scholarship by the Henderson County Education Foundation Inc.
She will receive a $3500 scholarship each year for four years for an award totaling $14,000.
Fernandez will enroll at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, where she will study nursing. She is the daughter of Guillermina Vazquez Peralta of Hendersonville.
Fernandez is the sixth recipient of the memorial scholarship. Other winners were Jonathan Wilkins, graduate of Clemson University; Christie Derrider, graduate of Gardner Webb University; Katherine Kilpatrick, a senior at Wofford College; Brayan Aguirre, a student at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College; and Shayna Scott, a student at North Carolina State University.
