Facing 15 new charges, school officer jailed under $1.35 million bond

A former school resource officer who faces charges of having sex with a 16-year-old student was charged on Thursday with 15 more counts, the Henderson County Sheriff's Department said. Having bonded out on Saturday, he was jailed again on Thursday night, this time under a $1.35 million bond.

Former Deputy Daniel Lindsey, 27, was arrested today and served with a felony warrant for disseminating obscenity and 14 misdemeanor warrants for disseminating material harmful to minors. It was not clear in the news release whether the new charges involve the same victim and sexual offense that Lindsey was charged early Saturday.

Lindsey, who is married, was charged on Friday with having sex with the female student twice in October and once in December. Sheriff Charlie McDonald fired him the day he was arrested.

Lindsey was taken before a Henderson County magistrate, who ordered a $1.35 million bond. He was transported to the Transylvania County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility. A new law enacted last year caused the original bond of $45,000 to be doubled on each addtional charge today. A first apprearance is scheduled on these most recent charges for District Court in Henderson County Friday morning at 9. Sheriff Charles McDonald said investigators are continuing to work closely with the District Attorney's Office. Should interviews or forensic testing of electronic devices reveal other criminal activity, addditional charges will be brought, he said.
