After 'heat wave,' polar air coming back

You can set aside the heavy layers, gloves and toboggan today don't stow them far.

Highs are expected to reach 45 today under sunny skies, the first 40s we've seen since the high climbed into the 40s early last week.
"We were 48 on the Jan. 21st," said NWS meteorologist Harry Gerapetritis. "We had that kind of warm stretch where we had actually hit 62 back on the 20th."
The warm reprieve today and Monday from the cold will be last week's warmup — brief. By Tuesday, another Arctic front will drop into the N.C. mountains, plunging daytime highs back into the 20s and overnight lows just above single digits with wind chill as low as minus-5.
After overnight lows tonight of 31, Monday will warm up to 46 under sunny skies. The cold marches back in Monday night, with a low of 17.
The high Tuesday will only reach 24 with wind gusts up to 30 mph, followed by a steady warmup through the week with a high of 44 Friday and 50 on Saturday.
There's no snow in the forecast.
