DSS honors social worker and father of 5

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners on Monday authorized a memorial to a county social worker and father of five who died unexpectedly on Jan. 21 at the age of 40.

Eric David Pace went to work on Friday before the Martin Luther King holiday weekend and died the following Tuesday.
"As far as I can recall he is the only active employee to die while they were still employed," said DSS Program Administrator Jerrie McFalls. "The employees wanted to know if we could buy a tree and plant it somewhere as a memorial. When we asked, they said it took the approval of the county commissioners if you're going to do a memorial."
A Hendersonville native, Pace is survived by his wife, Kelly Pace; five children, siblings, his parents and his in-laws.
"He was a young man with children at home and a great social worker," McFalls said. "His coworkers don't want the people just to forget that he helped the citizens of Henderson County."
