Man, 70, charged with assaulting wife

Sheriff's deputies charged a 70-year-old man with stabbing his 77-year-old wife in a domestic dispute on Tuesday morning.

Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing at 11:43 a.m. at 13 Springside Drive. After investigating, detectives arrested Benny Lawrence Mooney and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. He was jailed under bond before a first appearance in District Court on Wednesday.

An ambulance transported Mildred Mooney to Mission Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment for her injuries.
