Transylvania hires Asheville native to lead DSS

An Asheville native and mother of seven who is currently director of the Graham County Department of Social Services has been named Transylvania County’s new director of Social Services. She will begin her role on Aug. 24.

Prior to serving in Graham County, Tracy Jones, of Robbinsville, had a successful history in social work in Waycross, Ga., and Tampa, Fla., where she was dedicated to working with abuse prevention and protection of children.

Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and has done graduate work in guidance and counseling at Valdosta State University.

“We are very excited to have Tracy in the role to lead the Transylvania County Department of Social Services," said DSS Board Chair Jim Felty. "She has an outgoing personality and will work hard to accomplish the goals established by the DSS Board, the Board of Commissioners and provide the best services to the community and the citizens we serve. Please help us welcome Tracy and her family to our community.”

Jones is married with five biological children and two stepchildren — three of whom will be moving to Transylvania County. She and her family look forward to moving to Transylvania County and playing a key role in the community.

"Having grown up in Asheville I am thrilled to be moving back to the area," she said. "I feel honored at the opportunity to work with such a committed group of professionals that have their community at heart. I have already been shown an outpouring of support which is amazing."
