Highland Lake Villas frets about park runover

FLAT ROCK — Residents of Highland Lake Villas say they’re seeing unwanted traffic from the Park at Flat Rock and fear crime could follow.
Residents reported a house burglary and a car break-in in September, neighborhood HOA president Barbara Coladarci told the Flat Rock Village Council last week. “Also we’ve had an increase in the number of cars through our community as well as people riding their bikes and walking their dogs,” she said. The neighborhood plans to post signs that say “No Trespassing. Private Property.”
With the opening of the welcome center and the completion by next summer of a playground and pavilion, Coladarci said, the park will likely attract more visitors.
“The park is very popular,” she said. “We might even say it could be considered extremely successful. I know I speak for all of Highland Lake Villas in encouraging the council to consider the new entrance and additional parking area. It really is becoming more and more important for our community to have another way in and out of there.”
A new driveway off Highland Lake Road and a second parking lot are in the park master plan but the Village Council delayed that job in favor of other amenities that it deemed higher priorities.
