Local soccer team finishes 18-1-1

Soccer team made up of Henderson County players finished the season 18-1-1.

The Furman United Soccer Club 99G Purple HVL team finished its fall season playing in the South Carolina Youth Soccer Association’s Presidents Medal Soccer League.

Made up of players from Hendersonville High School, West Henderson High School, East Henderson High School and Brevard High School plus two home school students, the U99G Purple club won the Western Division with an 8-0 league record. For the season the Purple went 18-1-1 and outscored opponents 82-12.
Players are Anna Brewer-Bowman, Anna Price, Audra Morgan, Audrey Dockendorf, Camryn Coggins, Carson Kirby, Cayla Hughes, Chloe Riess, Ella Boeke, Grace Batchelder, Grayson Garber, Ivania Convento, Lupita Melendez, Mady Vess, Martha Smith, Maya Gash and Sarah Hickman. The head coach is Jerry Smith and assistant coaches are Brian Price, Jill Miller and Katheryn Beasley.
On Dec. 6, the team won the Publix PMSL State Cup tournament in Columbia, S.C., going 4-0 and defeating Eastern Division champion GPS NASA Maroon pf Charleston in the championship on a 3-2 score in an overtime penalty kick shootout. The team will be the South Carolina Youth Soccer Association representative in the U.S. Youth Soccer Region III Presidents Medal Cup in College Station, Texas, in June of 2016.
