Realtor, former Asheville mayor to speak at MLK events

Blue Ridge Community College will host its 16th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 18.

This year’s program, Pursuit of Happiness through Jobs and Freedom, will feature guest speak Erik Dowdy.

An associate broker at the Residences at W Atlanta Downtown, Dowdy was awarded sixth place in the “Atlanta Top 10” agents citywide in 2013 and was named a lifetime multimillion-dollar club member by the Atlanta Board of Realtors. Through his hard work and expertise, he has contributed greatly to the development of the Atlanta area.

The honorary breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the program to follow at 9:30 a.m. All events are open to the public and will be held at the Blue Ridge Conference Hall at Blue Ridge Community College.

Tickets are required and can be purchased online at www.blueridge.edu or in person at Blue Ridge Community College Cashier Office. Ticket prices are $12 for adults ($5 tax deductible) and $5 for children ages 5-12 years old.

In an evening event, former Asheville mayor Terry Bellamy will be the guest speaker for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. celebration at Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church at 6 p.m. The Union Grove Angelic Choir will perform and a memorial skit will be a part of this year’s program. Refreshments will be served immediately following the program in the fellowship hall.
