Barricaded man charged with attempted murder after allegedly firing at deputies

James Justin Munro

DANA — A 55-year-old Dana man was charged with attempted first-degree murder and other felonies after investigators say he barricaded himself in a house in Dana for several hours and fired at deputies trying to take him into custody.

Henderson County sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance between neighbors on Toone Town Terrace in the Dana community at 6:40 Sunday night. Upon arrival of officers it was reported that a neighbor had forcibly entered a residence while displaying a handgun. The occupants of the residence were able to force the intruder away and call 911.

Detectives responded and were able to identify the suspect as James Justin Munro Jr. When officers from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make the arrest, Munro failed to comply with the officers commands and barricaded himself inside the residence, the sheriff's office said. Sheriff’s Office negotiators were called to the scene and several hours of negotiations failed to get him to surrender peacefully. Murno displayed and discharged a firearm multiple times, even firing it at officers before he was taken into custody by members of the Henderson County SWAT team. Besides attempted murder, Munro is charged with two counts of first-degree burglary. He was jailed under no bond.
