Council on Aging seeks Meals on Wheels drivers

The Council on Aging of Henderson County, which provides and coordinates services to engage, connect, and support adults as they age, has an immediate need for Meals on Wheels volunteers to deliver meals, specifically for the following days of the week and locations:



• Monday: Asheville Highway 25 area.

• Tuesday: Hooper’s Creek Area and Green River area.

• Wednesday: Howard Gap Road area, Highway 64E area, Fruitland area, and Willow Road area

• Thursday: Fruitland area and Greenville Highway area

• Friday: Fruitland area, Kanuga Road area, and Howard Gap Road area.

Drivers for Meals on Wheels deliver a nutritious meal to frail, homebound adults all across Henderson County. Volunteers can choose to deliver a route as little as once per month or weekly if their schedule allows. To volunteer or learn more call (828) 692-6693.

Additional volunteer opportunities include:

• Thrift Store support: The Council on Aging operates thrift shops in Hendersonville and in Etowah. In both locations, volunteers serve as cashiers, salespeople and donation sorters. The thrift stores are open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday.

• Sammy Williams Center lunch site: Volunteers at the Sammy Williams Center interact with members by working in teams to serve meals, lead activities, and socialize in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. The Sammy Williams Center is open 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
