DAR presents JROTC, volunteerism awards

Dot Case presents the DAR's JROTC Award to Mary Grace Blackwell.

The Abraham Kuykendall Daughters Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented awards recently for excellence in JROTC service and for volunteerism.

The Junior ROTC Award was presented to Deputy Corps Commander Mary Grace Blackwell of North Henderson High School by DAR member Dot Case. The award recognizes a student who demonstrates academic excellence, dependability, good character, adherence to military discipline and leadership.

CarolinaVillageShown are Carolina Village dining director Maria Rich; Kathy Smith, who oversees congregate meal preparation; Executive Director Kevin Parries; Ruth Birge and Sally Buchholz, of the Council on Aging; and Stephanie Cole, COA's director of programs.The chapter presented its Excellence in Community Service Award to Carolina Village for outstanding volunteerism serving the Congregate Meal Program operated by the Council on Aging of Henderson County. Carolina Village has provided meals for the program since 2013. The program serves approximately 40 individuals per day, five days a week.
