The economic shock wave from the coronavirus pandemic has not slowed the pace of residential development.
Landowners and developers are moving ahead with plans for subdivisions, a new wedding view and an RV park with "glamping" sites. The county’s technical review committee this month reviewed and stamped tentative approval for:
• A revised master plan for 67 single family dwellings for the Couch Mountain subdivision on 335 acres off Hutch Mountain Road in northern Henderson County. The owner, Luna Ridge LLC, plans large home sites, 3,771 linear feet of new roadway and a gated entrance. The request goes to the Planning Board on May 21.
• The Orchards at Owensby Road, a 31-lot subdivision on 36 acres near Ridge Road in eastern Henderson County. The property owner is Luis Graef.
The technical review committee, made up of zoning, transportation, public health, stormwater and water and sewer officials, also sent two special use permit applications to the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
C. Steven Edney applied for a place of assembly permit on a 98-acre mountaintop tract at Justus Case Mountain Place. Edney already operates the site as a wedding venue and wants to add a bridal house and a pavilion. The site currently has a single-home family home. The additional bridal house would allow families to stay on the site for a “destination wedding,” Code Enforcement Services Director Toby Linville said.
Daniel Flores is seeking a special-use permit for an RV park on 9.6 acres on Lane Road off Upward Road. Flores’ application said the RV park and campground will offer park model cabins and “glamping tents,” for glamorous camping in a retreat-like setting. The park will provide “rest and relaxation in nature accompanied by the optional use of more comfortable camping amenities,” said surveyor Steven L. Waggoner, who drafted plans for the park.
The wedding venue and RV park go before the Zoning Board of Adjustment on May 27.
