School buses provide Wifi hot spots for remote learners

Pardee UNC Health Care is supporting Henderson County Public School’s efforts to provide Wi-Fi to students who do not have internet access.

Students now have two additional options to utilize internet access: Pardee Urgent Care in Fletcher and Pardee Urgent Care in Hendersonville. Parked school buses enabled with Wi-Fi can be accessed at 19 school sites and five community locations, with the addition of these Pardee facilities.
“As many students have transitioned to virtual learning this year, it’s more important than ever for them to have access to reliable Internet,” said Amy Treece, community relations and government affairs officer for Pardee UNC Health Care. “Pardee is happy to provide help in removing barriers to learning during these unprecedented times.”
“We are thankful for the partnership of community agencies like Pardee, who are accommodating our Wi-Fi buses on their campuses,” said Bo Caldwell, superintendent of Henderson County Public Schools. “These partnerships allow us to expand the availability of Internet access for our students as they continue with remote learning.”
In partnership with the Henderson County Education Foundation, HCPS is sharing a map of business and organization locations within the community offering free Internet access for HCPS students. A Google Map reference guide has been created to show all the hotspot locations and will be updated as new ones are added. Click on the location points for hours of service and/or Wi-Fi password, if applicable. Families may request print copies of the most recent PDF version of “Internet Map for HCPS Families,” from their schools.
