Wintry mix possible Tuesday night

The area could see a wintry mix Tuesday night changing to rain on Wednesday.

Precipitation is expected to develop quickly after midnight Tuesday night, peaking Wednesday morning, before tapering off in the afternoon, the National Weather Service said. The wintry mix should change over to rain by midday Wednesday, except perhaps for some pockets of freezing rain lingering into the afternoon across the northern mountains and northern foothills.
Light accumulations of sleet and freezing rain are expected across primarily the mountains, foothills, and northern Piedmont of North Carolina, although locations near the South Carolina border border could also see very light accumulations, forecasters said. Roads may become slick, especially on bridges and overpasses.
