Wayne McGraw, 55, of Hendersonville passed away Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013 at his home.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and preceded in death by his parents, Hesley McGraw and Barbara Dill McGraw Craig, his brother, David Steve McGraw and his step-son, Kenneth Chastain.
He is survived by his wife, April Chastain; his daughter Angela Stahr and her husband Burgin of Hendersonville; his son, Chris McGraw of Hendersonville; his step-son, Dustin Atkins of Hendersonville; his step-daughter, Ashley Laughter and her husband Jacob of Hendersonville; his sister; Tammie Gross and her husband Nat of Mills River; his grandson, Jayden Laughter of Hendersonville and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013 at Jackson Funeral Service. At other times the family will be at the home.
FLAT ROCK — Jeremiah Arthur Farrington, Jr., 93, passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, after a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne just 8 short months ago. He moved to Hendersonville 17 years ago from Princeton, N.J., where he had lived for over 40 years.
He graduated from High School at the age of 15, and then attended the Middlesex School in Concord, Mass., which he credited with introducing him to many of his lifelong passions. He graduated from Princeton University in 1941 with a degree in chemical engineering. He went to work for the Freeport Sulfur Company in Louisiana and Texas, before answering the Navy's call to direct a project at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, where he received an officer's commission. Upon discharge, he set up a development laboratory with the Cold Springs Bleachery in Yardley, Pa. In 1952, he returned to Princeton to begin his 35 year career in various positions culminating in his roles as Assistant Dean of Engineering and Assistant to the President.
Among his many accomplishments, he was a nationally renowned philatelist. His other interests included ancient Chinese ceramics, rare coins, gemstones and American antiques. Although he was 93, his wit, wisdom and sense of humor never left him.
He is survived by his children, Pam (Farrington) Boettcher, and husband Rick and sons; Steven Farrington, and Jeremiah A. Farrington, III (Jay) and grandchildren Brad Boettcher, Noah Farrington and David Farrington.
Per his request, there will be no memorial service. But we will all remember him as a special, talented and brilliant man who encouraged us to learn as much as we could about as much as we could in order to live a colorful life...not a grey one.

John P. Staffieri Major, USMC (Ret.), 78, passed away at home on Aug. 18, 2013.
Raised in Atlantic City, N.J., he entered military service at a young age. The final 17 years of his life were spent in Hendersonville, where he was active in the Marine Corps League. He was preceded in death by his brother Ray Staffieri and his sister Eleanor Portner.
John is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Dorothy Staffieri; daughter Renee Staffieri and her husband Jeff Nester of Hendersonville; son, Ray Staffieri and his wife Gail of Herndon, Va.,; and daughters, Anne Meeks of Sterling, Va., and Tracy St. John of Bristow, Va. Also surviving are his grandsons, Daniel Staffieri, Jacob Narvaez, Jonathan Staffieri, and Colin Staffieri; granddaughters, Christine Chow, Brook Henson; three great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Ravielli of Claremont, Fla.; and beloved niece, Karin Brooks.
John joined the Army National Guard at age 14 so he could march and play the bugle, then he enlisted in the Navy at age 15. At age 16 a security check of his ship revealed John was underage and he was discharged, but it didn't stop him. Still 16, he enlisted in the Marines and was sent to Korea where he fought in Seoul. Later, while laying telephone wire, he was blown out of a tree and left for dead by the enemy; then taken to Japan to recuperate. Not hearing from him, his sister contacted the Marine Corps and revealed his youth, but John turned 17 in time and as a corporal with an exemplary record, was allowed to remain a Marine.
His duty tours included Korea, London Embassy, Recruiting Duty, Beirut, Vietnam, Paris Island Drill Instructor, Okinawa, and later Japan. As a temporary officer during Vietnam; he carried concurrent officer and enlisted ranks, earning the highest of the enlisted. Then, as an administrator, he was selected as a Regular Officer.
John's caring personality took him to the Casualty Department, headquarters USMC, Washington, DC, for two tours. There he set up the casualty procedures and helped families of Marines who had fallen in Vietnam. He was the first to escort a deceased Marine foreign national back to his homeland for burial (Scotland). John retired from Camp Lejeune, NC.
Among his many military awards are: Navy Achievement Medal w/ "V" and star, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation w/ 2 stars, Navy Unit Commendation w/ 1 star, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal w/ 3 stars, Navy Occupation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal w/ 2 stars, Vietnam Service Medal w/ 1 star, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross w/ Palm, United Nations Service Medal, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After military retirement, John returned to Atlantic City and worked as an administrator with the NJ Casino Control Commission until he and Dorothy returned to North Carolina.
Burial with Military Honors will be held in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Ina Louise Tuttle Smith, 92, of Etowah died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at Hendersonville Health and Rehab.
She was born July 15, 1921, in Bennington, VT, to the late William Tuttle and Pearl Greenslet Tuttle.
She was a teacher and was a member of Mills River Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She is survived by her husband Harry Smith of Etowah, two sons, Bill Stull of Temperanceville, Va., and Roger Stull of Lewisburg, W.Va., two stepdaughters, Brenda Richards of Glendale, Calif., and Rhonda Torres of Candler, and four grandchildren.

ETOWAH — Albert "Al" William Rogers, 91, of Etowah, passed away Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013.
Mr. Rogers was born April 22, 1922, in Los Angeles, Calif. He was a World War II veteran, commercial fisherman, and a retired NASA Engineer. He was business owner of AL's Fly Shop and devoted member of Trout Unlimited, Pisgah Chapter, member at Grace Lutheran Church, Hendersonville. Many knew him for his love of outdoors and fly fishing, he was an inspiration to so many.
He is survived by his two daughters, Christine Belz, and Cynthia Budin; granddaughters, Ashley Sanders, and Rachel Patterson; grandson, Jimmy Rutherford; two great-grandchildren, Bryce Patterson and Wyatt Patterson.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Ken Langsdorf officiating.

Stephen Morrison Black, 68, of Hendersonville passed away unexpectedly at his home, Friday, August 23, 2013.
A native and life-long resident of Henderson County, he was a son of the late David H. and Rubye Garren Black. He was a columnist for the Times-News for 22 years, and was very proud of his time with them. He was a Marine Corps veteran, serving during the Vietnam era, and was an avid reader of military history. He was an advocate of animal rights, and was preceded in death by his beloved dog, Scooter.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty-six and a half years, Joyce Black; a son, David Black of Hendersonville; a daughter, Sarah Black of Suwanee, GA; a brother, David C. Black and his wife Joyce of Boca Raton, FL; a sister, Carol Ann Holmes of Pompano Beach, FL; many nieces and nephews, and his little dog, Tater Bug.
A graveside service with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Michael Nathaniel Lyons, 51, of Fletcher passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, after an extended illness. He has gone to enjoy eternal peace with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and the son of the late Nathaniel Lyons and stepson to the late Roy Lee West.
Mike worked for years performing various trade occupations such as factory and construction work. He was simple man, kind and courteous to everyone. In his younger years, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and loved being in the woods or on the river. Mike always had a story to share about the big ones that got away.
Mike is survived by his significant other, of 18 years, Sandra Riseden; her daughter Stacey and 3 grandchildren Cierra, Clorissa, and Jasmine; mother, Vina Sams West; sister, Donna Lyons Estep of Stafford, VA and her husband John and their two sons John and Brandon; brother, Randall Roy West of Hendersonville, and his wife Tammy, and their sons Cainan and Jordan and his wife Lauren; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Joseph Woodrow O'Neal Jr., 74, of Hendersonville, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at the Elizabeth House.
A native of Knightdale, he was born on Oct. 17, 1938, to the late Woodrow and Mary Terry O'Neal. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Jimmie Ray O'Neal; and two grandchildren, Ashleigh Joann Driver and Joseph Dillon Driver.
Mr. O'Neal was employed by the Public Service Company of North Carolina for 37 years and served as the Division Manager for Western North Carolina. He graduated from Knightdale High School and served in the United States Army National Guard. He was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church. During his years of employment he was very active in many community organizations, and enjoyed playing golf. He loved his family, and was a wonderful husband, Daddy, and Grandaddy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Raynor O'Neal; two daughters, Teresa O'Neal Freeman and her husband, Rick, of Hendersonville, Debbie O'Neal Price and her husband, Mike, of Wake Forest; four grandchildren, Colton Driver and his fiancée, Jessie Huynh of Columbia, SC, Michael Price of Raleigh, Brittany Price of Raleigh, Colby Price of Wake Forest; four sisters, Shirley Narron and her husband, Jimmy, of Hampton, GA, Mary Sue Boyd of Knightdale, Faye Bizzell and her husband, Bob, of Knightdale, Lynda Williams and her husband, John, of Prince Frederick, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Mud Creek Baptist Church with Dr. Greg T. Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends beginning one hour prior to the service at the church.

The Rev. Harold Lloyd McKinnish, 80, of East Flat Rock went to his Heavenly Home Wednesday,
Aug. 21, 2013.
He was a native of Henderson County. His family moved to Hendersonville in the Clear Creek area in 1920 from McKinnish Cove, Buncombe County, where his ancestors had settled in the early 1800s from Scotland and Ireland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd M. McKinnish and Margaret Pace McKinnish; a sister, Virginia M. McCrary and two nephews, Billy and Benny McCrary.
Harold McKinnish, sometimes called the "Baptist Bishop of Henderson County", served as pastor of nine Baptist churches, including Tuxedo, Fletcher, Ebenezer, East Flat Rock, Refuge in Henderson county. In addition, he served churches in South Carolina, including the Mountain View Baptist Church in Spartanburg, Calvary Baptist Church in Greer, and the Hicks Grove Baptist Church in Chesnee. He preached over 17,000 sermons, officiated over 2500 funerals, led numerous revivals across the southern region, and provided spiritual counsel to many people in the time of need. In addition to his skills as preacher and pastor, Harold McKinnish knew how to work with his hands. He honed the art of brickmasonry for supplementary income and personal enjoyment and then taught many students from Edneyville High School the skill of laying brick.
Graduating from the Edneyville High School in 1951, Reverend McKinnish also completed a degree at the Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute (1956), and studied at the North Greenville Junior College.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lois Griffin McKinnish; a son, Jim McKinnish and his wife Kim of Hendersonville; a daughter, Linda McKinnish Bridges and her husband Tilden Bridges of Winston-Salem, NC; three grandchildren, Josh McKinnish and his fiancé Amanda Kimbrell, Amber McKinnish McCall and her husband Zach, and Kyle McKinnish Bridges and three great granddaughters, Addison, Avary and Ayla McCall.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at the East Flat Rock First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Linda McKinnish Bridges, Reverend Brent Thomas, Reverend Sandy Beck, Reverend Tilden Bridges officiating. Jim McKinnish and the grandchildren will provide special music. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12 PM to 4 PM and 6 PM to 8:30 PM at the East Flat Rock First Baptist Church.
We will remember him in various ways but most will remember his love for faith and people. When recently asked what was most important about his life, he replied, 'I didn't aim for position . . . I didn't aim for prestige or salary . . . . I really did this life work as minister of the gospel because I really do love people. I have always been interested in people. I have wanted to know people—to be a part of their lives and to be an encouragement to them along life's journey."

This special fund will honor the ministry of Harold and Lois McKinnish providing financial support for a young student planning to serve churches in North or South Carolina. Dennis Everett Allman, 55, of Hendersonville, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013.
A native of Polk County and a longtime resident of Henderson County, Dennis was the son of the late Buford Junior and Ruth Case Allman.
He graduated valedictorian from East Henderson High School and cum laude from Western Carolina with a B.S. in mathematics. He was self-employed as a computer contractor and was a member of Saluda First Baptist Church. Dennis loved western movies, country music, stock car racing, Scooby Doo, and solving puzzles and mind games. While vacationing in Hilton Head, he enjoyed deep-sea fishing and fishing with his father and brother-in-law. He was very generous and giving to all of his family.
His survivors include his sisters, Jean Allman of Mullins, SC, Gwen Cantrell and husband Coy of Saluda and Debra Pace and husband Myron of Saluda; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home with Pastor Kem Thomas officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Howard "Glenn" Duncan, 77, of Hendersonville, died on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Pardee Hospital.
A native and life long resident of Henderson County he was born on March 26, 1936, to the late Raymond Duncan and Louise Pace Duncan. He was also preceded in death by his son, Curtis Cox.
He had a love for the open road, working as a long haul truck driver for over 40 years and riding his Gold Wing Motorcycle in his off time and retirement. He also enjoyed airplanes and western movies.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pauline Duncan; his son, James Cox and his wife, LuAnne; his brothers, Stanley Duncan and his wife, Terri, Gene Duncan and his wife, Marjorie; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Merrill Baldwin, Randy Kessler, Don Justus, Roger Dalton, Nick Black and Bryan Dockery will all be proudly serving as pall bearers.

Linda Kay Downs Lowery, 58, of Hendersonville, died on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Elizabeth House.
A native of Franklin she was born on May 20, 1955 to the late Jack Nelson Downs and Freida Mason Hartshorn. She was also preceded in death by her loving son, Zachariah Shawn Huntley.
She was an animal lover and an avid flower gardener but more than anything she was a loving mother, daughter, and friend. She will be truly missed by all that knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Summer Huntley-Dale and her husband, Kevin, of Etowah; her brothers, Gary and Jeff Downs of Lincoln, NE; her granddaughter, Cassidy Alexandria Dale; several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at Mills River United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013, at the Funeral Home.

Dois Dan Bumgarner, 86, of Hendersonville died Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Universal Health Care of Fletcher following a long period of declining health.
He was the son of the late Jesse and Dailie Bumgarner and was also preceded in death by two brothers, Morris and Ted.
Dan was the owner and operator of Hendersonville Door Company before retiring in 1999. He was a man of strong Christian faith and lived his life according to Matthew 25:35-36.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; stepchildren, Lynda Allcock and John White; a sister, Thelma Blankenship of Hendersonville; a brother, Robert (Bob) Bumgarner of Dallas, Texas; and by nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
The family extends its thanks to the caring and efficient staff at Universal Health Care of Fletcher and Dr. Randy Tryon.

Emma Fisher Clark, 83, of Fruitland died Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock after a period of declining health.
Born in the Nashville area, she had resided in Henderson County for over 47 years and was the wife of the late Hugh Clark. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Glenn Fisher.
Mrs. Clark loved to fish and always managed to catch the largest one. She was of the Baptist faith and was a very dedicated Christian.
She is survived by her four sons, Billy Fisher and wife, Deborah, of Saluda; Jerry Fisher, Mark Fisher and Craig Fisher, all of Hendersonville; a granddaughter, Jessie Fisher; a sister, Rosie Brewster of Nashville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held.

Garry Dean Turbeville, 36, of Horse Shoe, passed away suddenly Monday,
August 12, in Lithia Springs, GA.
Born in Baton Rouge, LA, he was a son of
Garry Wayne and Mary Sue Stepp Turbeville of Lithia Springs and
Hendersonville. He lived most of his life in Henderson County and was a
dedicated employee of Honeybaked Ham. He had also participated in the Job
Corps and had served as a volunteer firefighter battling wildfires in
California. He was an avid NASCAR, LSU and New Orleans Saints fan.
Garry is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Tina Marie Turbeville;
sister, Tammy Rasberry of Powder Springs, GA; brother, Vance Turbeville of
Lithia Springs, GA; niece, Shanna Lindley and her husband Gary; nephew,
Donald "Duck" Rasberry; great niece and nephew, Alexis and Gary Lindley and
many other loving family members in Louisiana.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 PM Monday, August 19, in the Kirby
Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Landreth will officiate. A
reception will follow the service at Honeybaked Ham.

Kolton George Bourbeau, infant son of Paul and Brandy Budde Bourbeau, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Mission Hospitals in Asheville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, McKenzie Lynn Bourbeau; maternal grandparents, Robert & Lynnette Budde of Fletcher; paternal grandparents, Norman and Hellen Bourbeau of Blairsville, GA; paternal great-grandfather, Francis Bourbeau of Palmetto, FL; and many other loving family members.

Rose Voneta Schenk Sams, 94, of Hendersonville, died on
Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at her home.
A native of Beloit, OH she was born
to the late John Jacob Schenk and Nannie M. Baker Schenk. She was also
preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, G. Paul Sams.
She graduated from Beloit High School in Beloit, OH as valedictorian,
class of 1937 and has lived in Hendersonville for the last 30 years.
She was a member of First Congregational Church of Hendersonville, active
in the PTA, Girls Scouts, Cub Scouts, various church committees and her
children's schools in her younger years.
She is survived by her three sons, Gary P. Sams and his wife, Ruth of
Brooklyn, NY, Dale E. Sams and his wife, Jackie, of Cumberland, MD, Tony
W. Sams and his wife, Michele, of Shelby, NC; her two daughters, Jane E.
Ballinger and her husband, Steve of Christchurch, New Zealand, Beth N.
Gidley and her husband, Scott, of Austin, TX; her 14 grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, J. Stanley Sams and his wife,
Irene, of Sebring, OH; her sister-in-law, Eunice Sams Close of Beloit, OH
and numerous nieces and nephews.

LAUREL PARK — Christopher Lloyd Morgan, 23, of Laurel Park, died on Saturday, August 10, 2013.
He was a 2008 graduate of Hendersonville High School.
He is survived by his loving parents, Wane and Michelle Morgan; his
sister, Jennifer Morgan; and his brother, Andrew Morgan.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Friday, August 16, 2013 at
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Oakdale City
Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00PM until 8:00PM on
Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Christopher
Lloyd Morgan Funeral Fund, c/o PNC Bank, 245 North Main Street,
