James Henry “Jimmy” Staton, 69

James Henry “Jimmy” Staton, age 69, of Flat Rock passed into Heaven from the Elizabeth House on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 after a lengthy illness. His is preceded in death by his parents, W.R. (Redden) Staton and Pauline Case Staton; and his only sibling, Jeanne Staton Jones.

A native of Henderson County, Jimmy loved his mountains and the history of the area. He was an avid collector of historical facts and information, particularly on Indian culture and lore. He spent many hours fashioning and creating replicas of Indian carvings, beadwork, knives, holsters, and powder horns.

An apple grower for fifty years, Jimmy enjoyed working on his farm and selling produce, especially to his friends at the WNC Farmers Market. For fifteen years he was the owner and operator of Jim’s Catfish Lake in Dana, NC.

Jimmy is survived by Joyce Osteen Staton, his faithful and loving wife of 48 years. He is also survived by his son, Robert Staton; his daughter, Veronica Staton McKay and her husband, Billy McKay; his two grandchildren, Havan McKay and Molly McKay; and his sister’s husband, Ed Jones.

He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and trusted dog, Rusty.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 in Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel with the Reverend Dan Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow the service in Refuge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
