BorgWarner to add jobs paying $60K/year

BorgWarner Thermal Systems Inc. is expected to move ahead with an $8.2 million expansion that would add 31 good-paying jobs at its Fletcher plant after the Henderson County Board of Commissioners authorized economic development incentives for the project.

The Henderson County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved the incentives during its regular monthly meeting on Monday. Plant manager Todd Bennington said he expected the company to green-light the project now that it has the incentives. The plant at the Cane Creek Industrial Park will add a new line to manufacture parts that it is currently buying from an outsourced supplier.

The Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development requested the county board's approval for the incentives, which come in the form of refunds of property tax payments. BorgWarner, which makes cooling systems for commercial trucks, would receive $29,481 the first year and up to $140,033 over seven years provided it added jobs plus benefits paying higher than the average wage in the county.

Andrew Tate, president of the Henderson County Partnership for Economic Development, told commissioners that the plant currently employs 270 people. The new jobs are expected to pay $60,000 a year, he said.
