Cawthorn nominates seniors for service academy appointments

Nominees for service academy appointments pose with U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn.

U.S. Rep. Madison Cawthorn nominated six high school seniors from the 11th Congressional District for appointment to service academies and met with the candidates recently at his district office in the Grove Street Courthouse.

Posing with Cawthorn, nominees, their high school and the service academy they’re applying for, from left, are Luke Artz, Enka High School, U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy; Connor Mailander, Carolina Day School, Naval Academy; Graham Green, Brevard High School, Air Force Academy; Luther Leblanc, Veritas Christian Academy, West Point, Naval Academy; John Ross, Hendersonville High School, West Point, Naval Academy. Unable to attend that day was Derek Meaney, McDowell County High School, West Point, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy. The applicants still must be admitted by the service academy they hope to attend. A nomination from their congressman is a part of the application process, said Hal Weatherman, Cawthorn’s district director.
