Section of I-26 closing tonight

A 12-mile section of Interstate 26 spanning the Buncombe and Henderson County line will be closed tonight.

Drivers will be diverted onto modified detours that will handle increased traffic both nights.

Interstate 26 East will be closed from Long Shoals Road to U.S. 25 starting no earlier than 8 p.m. Traffic will be detoured onto Long Shoals Road and Hendersonville Road. The detour – which have been utilized multiple nights this year – use the Integrated Corridor Management system to provide longer green lights to accommodate additional traffic from the interstate. The closed lanes will open no later than 6 a.m. Contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will utilize the closures to place beams for a new bridge on Butler Bridge Road and conduct improvements to the median barrier wall.

These plans are weather dependent and subject to change. Transportation officials advise drivers to obey all posted traffic signs and remain alert in work zones.
