'Walk Hendo' seeks public input on making city pedestrian friendly (2)

A steering committee formed to update the City’s Pedestrian Plan wants to hear the community’s vision, strategies, goals and recommended actions to make the city more walkable.

On July 25 and throughout the month of August, the city will be hosting "Walk Hendo"community engagement activities. The city will host a drop-in-style public meeting 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 25, to hear people's thoughts about walking and moving throughout the city. An online survey will be launched that same day and will run throughout August to collect similar feedback.

The community’s input will be used to create a Pedestrian Plan for Hendersonville. Once the plan is adopted, the city and NCDOT can use it to direct how projects are constructed, make policy choices, build programs and events and apply for new types of funding.

Walk Hendo was made possible with a grant from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and a financial match from the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club. The project is being led by Asheville-based transportation consulting firm Traffic Planning & Design.
