LOCAL BRIEFS: Glassman Studio, Pardee nurse, Dr. Crane to speak

Ribbon cutting marks opening of Stuart Glassman Studio

The Stuart Glassman Clay Studio at Art Place, a state-of-the-art facility on Asheville Highway that will meet the art community’s need for a fully equipped clay studio, officially opened with a ribbon-cutting on Friday, March 8, the Art League announced.

Boasting multiple kilns, pottery wheels, slab rollers and an array of tools, the studio at 2015 Asheville Highway is well-prepared to serve individuals at all levels of experience and interest in the realm of clay art.

The Art League’s commitment to accessibility is evident through the diverse range of offerings, including classes, workshops, demonstrations and open studio sessions with firing opportunities.

The naming of the studio in honor of Dr. Stuart Glassman, a distinguished physician and accomplished clay artist, is a tribute to his lasting contributions to both the medical field and the arts. His legacy of compassionate care and community service is mirrored in the studio’s mission to provide an inclusive environment aligned with his values.

Generous support from the Community Foundation, the Arts Council of Henderson County and private donors allowed the Art League to upgrade essential infrastructure such as power and lighting and acquire high-quality equipment.

Located in the Art Place Studios at 2015 Asheville Highway, the Glassman Studio welcomes visitors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. For information on classes and workshops visit ArtLeagueHVL.org.

Betsy Cosgrove is Pardee's Teammate of the Month

Betsy Cosgrove, who as a registered nurse with Pardee OB/GYN Associates models care that puts patients first, was honored as UNC Health Pardee’s Teammate of the Month.

In her role, Cosgrove ensures proper execution of fetal monitoring, surgery scheduling, ordering specialty medications, insurance approvals, managing appointments and labs and triaging patients among other duties.

Beginning her career in the labor and delivery department at Pardee Hospital, Cosgrove has practiced as a nurse for nearly 40 years. She transitioned into working with former Pardee Chief Medical Officer David Ellis when he was practicing as an OB-GYN and held that role for almost 30 years. When Dr. Ellis retired, Cosgrove joined the team at Pardee OB/GYN Associates, where colleagues describe her as indispensable.

“Betsy remembers nearly every patient by name and her example inspires others to rise to her level of accountability and excellent patient care by always putting patients first,” a coworker said. Her colleagues say Pardee is a better place with Betsy on board. “She works diligently and spends effort to ensure each patient is cared for and extra time is taken to make sure no one leaves feeling unheard.”
