Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass performs Sunday in Brevard

The Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass will perform a program of works for brass and a special selection for organ and brass at Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church in downtown Brevard at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 14.

The concert is free and open to the public, with donations accepted.

Showcasing a variety of musical styles, the program includes Bach’s Sleepers Awake, the popular jazz standard A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square, the haunting October by Eric Whitacre, highlights from Porgy and Bess and the “Overture” to Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic opera The Mikado. A special treat will be the collaboration with church organist Michael Helman in a performance of Poéme Héroique for brass and organ.

The Blue Ridge Symphonic Brass is dedicated to bringing the symphonic brass repertoire to music patrons, often in collaboration with local soloists or other musical groups. The ensemble includes trumpets, horns, euphoniums, trombones, tubas and percussion.
