Motorcyclist dies after colliding with deer on Blue Ridge Parkway

A motorcyclist traveling north on the Blue Ridge Parkway died on Saturday, 13 days after he collided with a deer that crossed his lane of traffic in Floyd County, Virginia, the National Park Service announced.
The motorcyle rider, Edward Zigata, 60, of Shallotte, N.C., sustained serious injuries when he was ejected from the bike in the crash at 11:59 a.m. on June 1. NPS law enforcement rangers, along with Floyd County Fire and EMS, responded to the scene. Zigata was transported by helicopter to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Park officials received word that he succumbed from his injuries on Saturday, June 14. No additional details were available on Monday, the park service said.
